The Holly and the Ivy

"The Holly and the Ivy" is an English traditional Christmas carol. "Holly and ivy have been the mainstay of Christmas decoration for church use since at least the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, when they are mentioned regularly in churchwardens’ accounts" (Roud 2004). Holly and ivy also figure in the lyrics of the "Sans Day Carol". The music and most of the text was first published by Cecil Sharp.[1] Sir Henry Walford Davies wrote a popular choral arrangement that is often performed at the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols and by choirs around the world. Chestnut

The Christmas Song

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping at your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
and folks dressed up as eskimos

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
helps to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all a glow
will help to make the season bright

They know that Santa's on his way
he has loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is going to spy
to see if reindeer do really know how to fly

And so I am offering this simple phrase
for kids from one to ninety two
Although its been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you.....

words and music by Mel Thorme and Robert Wells
recorded by Nat "King" Cole 1946 (re released 1960)

Christmas partying

Christmas is really all about having the opportunity to have friends over to catch up on life and spend some time in each others company, chatting, eating and drinking a glass or two of wine

Christmas is coming

Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat,
Could you please spare a penny for the old man's hat,
If you have not got a penny,
a ha' penny will do,
If you have not got a ha' penny
God bless you.

Knitting project

Leiny was so pleased with this Noro wool bolero I made for her last year, I loved working with the Noro wool, it was so soft, knitted up fast and the mystery was in the fact that I did not know what the colours would be like until it was knitted up.

Finding the time to knit in a quite spot was always a pleasure and knitting is such a peaceful and calming activity. Having knit for nearly forty years now, I can watch my favourite shows on television while knitting.

The colours are amazing and such a pleasure to knit with.

Big hugs,

Margie
